History

Metatarsalgia, a torn plantar plate, pain in the ball of foot at the second MTP joint. This all started when I decided to run the New York City Marathon 2002. I trained and ran a lot of half marathons and then did end up running the New York City Marathon and crossed the finish line. I enjoyed my running days. I continued to run and in 2007 I started to feel pain in the ball of my foot. I got orthotics and that helped for about a year and then in 2009 I started running again and the pain returned. In 2009 because I couldn’t get the pain resolved by conservative methods I opted for surgery. There was a repair of the plantar plate and a shortening of the second toe. The first repair was performed with A plate and three screws in my second toe. They were taken out six weeks later in the beginning of 2010 because they gave me pain. So that was a second surgery. Fast forward a year and a half into 2011 which took a very long time to heal about 80 to 85% and I was back to my activities as much as I can but I was not running and I was fine with that. 2011 to 2018 I was fine for 7 years, until I stepped on something at the beach on July 2018 and I aggravated the surgery in the same spot under my second toe on my left foot where I had the surgery and to this day I’m still in pain. Went to many many many many doctors surgeons podiatrist you name it. Tried conservative treatments and doesn’t seem to be helping at the moment. There could be a surgery, but the surgeries suggested are not good ones. They could make me better or worse or not work at all. So I don’t know what to do next. Was also thinking about amputation if this doesn’t resolve or maybe having one of the surgeries I’m just not sure anymore. Anyone else have anything similar to this?
